A Home Away From Home

We understand it can be stressful to leave your pet when you go out of town – especially if they are ill or recovering from a procedure or surgery. At Kay Animal Hospital, we want to help put your mind at ease.

We provide complete general boarding services for all of our patients and medical boarding services for pets with conditions standard boarding centers may not be equipped to accommodate.

Medical Boarding for Cats & Dogs, Douglasville Vet

Boarding: A Typical Day

Dogs

The dogs get to stretch their legs and have some fun in the fresh air before breakfast. We also spend time cleaning their kennels, getting them disinfected and stocked with fresh linens while they are outside.

We walk the dogs who stay with us on a regular schedule depending on their physical capacity and ability.

During walks and naps, your dog will be closely monitored by one of our staff members. After dinner is served, we go for one last walk before retiring for the night.

Cats

In order to keep your cat's routine the same as it is at home, they will be fed in accordance with your instructions and their needs.

Play, snuggles, and pets are all part of the daily one-on-one interaction we provide for kitties (if they want them!). We clean and disinfect litter bins throughout the day to ensure they are always ready for use.

We also change the linens in your cat's room every day and clean it. In order to ensure your kitty's comfort and safety while they're with us, we have a separate cat boarding area from our dog boarding area.

Medical Boarding

Our veterinarians and nurses will closely monitor and administer medications to your pet while you are away. Medication will be given to your pet on the same schedule that they are used to receiving at home unless otherwise specified.

  • Is there a limit to the number of pets I can board at a time?

We may be able to accommodate canine/canine or feline/feline family members depending on the circumstances.

  • How much does pet boarding cost?

A pet's size, length of stay, and any special medical needs all factor into boarding fees. Our rates are reasonable and competitive. Please contact us if you'd like a price estimate.

  • What time should I drop off and pick up my pet?

Kay Animal Hospital opens its doors at 7:30 AM, an hour before our regular opening time, each day for boarding and surgery drop-offs. We ask that you bring your pet to us during this window of time when dropping them off for our boarding services.

It's best to make reservations, particularly during popular times like holidays and the summer weekends. You should book at least 2-3 weeks in advance during these times to ensure a spot is available.

  • How should I prepare for my pet's stay?

Every animal is unique in its own way. We'll take the following steps to make sure we're ready for your pet's stay with us.

Step 1: Contact us to get started

Call us to book, and to discuss details about your pet and your boarding needs. A member of our team will be happy to coordinate your booking.

Please note that, due to the nature of our accommodations, we do not accept unaltered dogs. Pets must be up to date with all vaccinations and free of fleas and ticks to stay at our facility.

Step 2: Book a trial stay

Before allowing your pet to stay with us, we want to make sure that we are a good match for them. The trial stay includes a full day of daycare so we can get a feel for your pet's personality and see if they'll fit in with the rest of the group.

Step 3: Set your pet up for success

There are a few things you can do to help your pet feel less anxious when you drop them off at our clinic.

Be sure to spend some extra time with your pet in the days leading up to the event, and give them vigorous exercise to help them relax. Arrive at our facility calmly, cheerfully, and confidently, and remain so throughout the separation process with us.

For pets that are not on a special diet, we'll provide high-quality, nutritious pet food.
